Höhepunkt des Films ist zwar das Rugby-Weltmeisterschaftsfinale im Ellis Park Stadion, trotzdem bleibt der Rugby-Sport im Film nur eine Nebenhandlung. Der eigentliche Inhalt des Films handelt von den Anfängen von Nelson Mandelas Präsidentschaft und der Versöhnung der Rainbow-Nation mit den Springboks.
Morgan Freeman spielt Nelson Mandela. Matt Damon verkörpert den Kapitän der Springboks: François Pienaar.
